Black Art Seminar, 1971

Scope and Contents

This seminar was conducted by Sherry DeCarava and ran for 7 weeks. Youths between 13 and 16 attended the seminar which focused on African and African American art. There were round table discussions, studio workshop sessions, gallery tours, and visits to contemporary Black artists.

Museums Collaborative Inc. Voucher program, 1972-1973, 1976-1977

Scope and Contents

These folders contain early reports, meetings, and ideas for the cultural voucher program. While between 1975-1985, the Cultural Voucher program operated out of the Brooklyn Museum's Community Services department, it was first concerned with Youths and School programming. There is an interesting report called "Programs and Projects- First Six Months".

Scope and Contents From the Sub-Series:

This sub series documents the activities of the Junior Membership program from 1961-1981. It includes correspondence, programming files, statistics on programming attendance, and publications. The Junior Membership Bulletin was published in 1962 and 1963, but has articles about the history of the Museum, collections, exhibitions, and programming for Junior Members.

Pre-visit kits were active in the late 1970s through early 1980s. Teachers could use the themed kits in their classroom before coming to the Museum to help situate students to what they would be viewing. Kits were themed on specific artworks or galleries that alos connected to curriculm. The kits inlcude: Landscape; Native Americans; Archaeology; and Pick a Pattern, Pick a Shape. This series also contains a small amount of material on pre-visit kits from the 1990s.
