Scope and Contents
This series documents the School Services and Programs department between 1970-2019, with a small amount of material from 1934. Largely, this series documents collaborations between Brooklyn Museum educators and public school teachers and classes including Museum visits, lesson plans, art making activities, and curriculum development.
This series contains documentation on workshops and events; lesson plans and activities related to specific Brooklyn Museum artworks, themes, and exhibitions; focus units from New York-based schools; teacher and staff resources; examples of student work; pedagogy research for interns; pre-visit kits; and documentation of larger programs like Studio in a School, NYC Museum School, and Adopt a School.

Offensive stereotypes are depicted in the Brooklyn Museum School Service Units from 1934, and are often racist in describing nonwhite peoples.
Our historical materials in particular are presented in their original and unaltered forms for research and study, which allows us to also confront our legacy of colonization and inform our understanding today. These items have been retained as they originally existed to preserve the integrity of the historical record and to foster accountability.
