Scope and Contents
This sub series documents the activities of the Junior Membership program from 1961-1981. It includes correspondence, programming files, statistics on programming attendance, and publications. The Junior Membership Bulletin was published in 1962 and 1963, but has articles about the history of the Museum, collections, exhibitions, and programming for Junior Members.

Biographical / Historical
The Junior Membership Program was a series of programs for youths ages 6-18. Junior Members recieved membership cards for the Museum, and they were eligle for exclusive weekly and summer art programming. Junior Members artwork was often displayed in the Junior Members gallery. Around 1972, the program was renamed to The Workshop, but offered similar programming. Around 1977, it was again renamed to the Studio Workshop for Young People. This series of programming was discontinued in 1981. Studio classes for youth were reinstated around 1985 with the Raiders of the Fine Arts programming.
Jean-Michel Basquiat was a Junior Member - his membership card is owned by his estate and was loaned to the Brooklyn Museum for the exhibit One Basqiat in 2018.
