Exhibition and Permanent Collection Installation Files, 1967-2022
Scope and Contents
This series is divided into 2 sub series, one for Gallery intallations and one for Exhibits. Gallery installations and activiations are smaller than most exhibits, and usually are comprised of only collection items. Exhibits can be travelling or created by the Brooklyn Museum and are often larger in scope. There is a small amount of general files, or files that have both that are listed below these two series.
Complimenting the curatorial exhibition and permaneny gallery installation files, the Education exhibit and gallery files often contain correspondence, didactic information, label copy, and programming documentation. Starting in 1972, the Education department was briefly renamed as Interpretation, signifying the new purpose of working with curatorial to create didactic materials and label copy. Curatorial and Education have worked closely since then in interpretating artwork, and creating information for visitors.
The Brooklyn Museum's standrds for naming exhibits is to have the entire exhibit title followed by the dates that exhibit was open in brackets. An example is: SENSATION: Young British Artists from the Saatchi Collection [10/02/1999-01/09/2000].
