Collected material - Brooklyn City Library, 1843
File — Box: 31, Folder: 7
Scope and Contents
The Brooklyn City Library was founded in 1828 as an offshoot of the Brooklyn Apprentice's Library. Where the Apprentice's library was by membership, the City Library was free. It was housed within the Brooklyn Lyceum. Eventually, due in part to the merger between the Brooklyn Apprentice's Library and the Brooklyn Lyceum, the Brooklyn Institute also merged with the City Library.
