City as School, A proposal for a new High School program in New York City, 1970-1978
Scope and Contents
The City as School (CAS) program attempted to solve issues in the Brooklyn School like the racial integration, overcrowding, and lack of use of cultural resources outside of the school. The program launched in fall of 1971 for 1100 Brooklyn students, who spent 2 days a week in their school, and 3 days a week in "racially balanced" groups at cultural institutions like the Brooklyn Museum, The Brooklyn Public Library, The Center for Brooklyn History (then called the Long Island Historical Society), the NYC Department of Parks, and Pratt Institute. This folder includes a proposal for the program and correpsondence with Hannah T. Rose.
