The Glass Plate Negatives and Photographs series document the day-to-day activities of the Natural Science Department as well as the process and intricacies of specimen display within its collections. Included in the Glass Plate Negatives and Photographs are the many installations of taxidermied vertebrates in their natural habitats, such as groups of deer and bears, that were prepared by chief taxidermists John William Critchley, Robert H. Rockwell, and George K. Cherrie, along with design support from the museum’s modelers. Museum advertisements of the Natural Science Department are also in this series, illustrating animal life. Some glass plate negatives are fractured and are restricted from public access.
