Entomology files, 1905-13
Scope and Contents
The Departmental Administration series outline the organizational and exhibition activities of the Natural Sciences Department in its early development, gallery layout, and specimen display, specifically detailed in the monthly department reports (1900-1904) and entomology files (1905-1913). The minutes of the Natural Sciences department as a nominal educational club/committee are included in the series and span from 1944-1960. Also included is the correspondence regarding expeditions of the Ethnology wing of the Natural Sciences Department, prior to the appointment of Stewart Culin as curator of a separate Ethnology department within BIAS (1899-1903). The files are representative of the many cultural objects that belonged to indigenous communities from the Americas that were sought as ethnographic material.
