Scope and Contents
The Correspondence Series contains general correspondence regarding administrative and staff duties of the Natural Sciences Department as well as more specific exchanges between department curators and Franklin W. Hooper concerning specimen maintenance and exhibition, specifically from Alfred G. Mayer, Jacob Doll, Charles Schaeffer, and Helen J. Aitkin. Correspondence focuses on interior display, the growth of the taxidermy lab, communication with other institutions, and expeditions by the department for collection and research. Of special interest are a series of letters from Anna Hyatt Huntington who was commissioned to create several models of animals for display in 1902.
