 File — Multiple Containers

Scope and Contents

This exhibit was originally featured in the Community Gallery of the Brooklyn Museum in 1974. This folder includes an exhibit catalog for Design Works of Bedford Stuyvesant [05/01/1974-06/09/1974], correspondence, a press release for the 1974 exhibit, and exhibit summary or proposal texts about the Henry Street Settlement House exhibit.

Of special interest are several fliers about a group called SOUL in Box 92, Folder 20. SOUL was "organized in 1968, after the death of Martin Luther King, by John Garland and Clara Branch. The purpose of the club, at first, was to familiarize those of other races within F.I.T. with our heritage...by presenting gospel shows, writing a newspaper, and giving fashion shows to raise money for our SOUL book fund." The quoted material comes from a September 25, 1973 flier/history written by Branch.
