The purpose of "the Learning Center was to create a space for teachers, students, families, and individual non-experts to explore non-scholarly materials about the collection: curriculum materials, teacher packets, lesson plans, stories and myths from cultures relevant to our collections, art related CD-ROMs and websites, children's literature on art, videos, slides for loan, etc." (Memo from Deborah Schwartz, 1996. Box 69, Folder 53.) The Learning Center was opened in January of 1999 and it was located on the first floor. Visitors could utilize computers wiht internet access and browse books about art. The Learning Center used new technologies to explore and enhance how visitors can better understand art. Websites were selected by educators to meet certain standards, which included the Brooklyn Expedition website, a partnership with BPL and BCM.
