Letters from Gutmann that describe arriving in Cairo; an account of a small hand-mill that Gutmann saw a woman using to grind corn; descriptions of people working in the canals of the Nile and the irrigation tools he saw being used; descriptions of mosques outside of Cairo as well as “whirling dervishes”, accompanied by illustrations; an account of visiting the pyramids and the Sphinx, with an explanation for why Gutmann did not feel qualified to try to sketch what he saw.
